BOISE, Idaho – Boise State gymnasts Isabella Amado and Courtney McGregor are part of a record 605 female college athletes, across all three NCAA divisions, nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Each of the Bronco gymnasts well represents the four pillars of the NCAA Woman of the Year Award: academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Both Bronco gymnasts were 2016 Olympians at the Rio Games, with Amado competing for Panama and McGregor for New Zealand, and joined Boise State in 2017. They would go on to help the Broncos to three-straight Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference titles from 2017-19 (the 2020 campaign was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic), and three NCAA Regional appearances.
Amado, following her Olympic performance, came to Boise State in 2017 but suffered a season-ending injury early on in her freshman campaign. Demonstrating her courage and resolve in working herself back to competition, Amado went on to take the 2019 MRGC title on beam, and was named to the All-MRGC Second Team on the same apparatus in 2020.
McGregor served as a team captain in 2020, and put together a highly-decorated career at Boise State. The Christchurch, New Zealand, native claimed two MRGC event titles (2019 all-around, 2018 beam) and was a six-time selection to the All-MRGC First Team, earning two such honors apiece for all-around, bars, and vault.
Amado and McGregor were also leaders on the academic side, each being thrice named WCGA Scholastic All-American (2017-19) and named Academic All-MRGC four times apiece (2017-20). McGregor, with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average and a degree in health studies, was twice voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team (2019-20). Amado earned her degree in health studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.98.
The Woman of the Year selection committee will pare the list of nominees to the Top 30 Honorees, and from there to nine finalists. The 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced in the fall.
