TEMPE, Ariz. - The Boise State women's tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic success this past year and has been named an ITA All-Academic Team. This marks the 14th time in the last 15 years that Bronco women's tennis has earned this honor.
"What an incredible effort from our team to have so many players named to these academic award lists," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "It's definitely a testament to their discipline and drive to be champions on and off the court. Balancing the incredible investment to their sport and their academics is no easy task and to have the success we had this year on the court and posting a 3.9 (spring) GPA as a team is something the student-athletes in our program and those that support them should be incredibly proud of."
The Broncos were one of eight schools from the Mountain West recognized by the ITA for having a 3.2 or better team GPA. This past spring Boise State women's tennis turned in a 3.92 GPA, the entire team finished at 3.7 or better with four 4.0s.
In addition, an impressive eight out of nine student-athletes on Boise State's team were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Those Broncos recognized include: Joana Baptista, Ana Conde Vendrell, Jovana Kuljanin, Camryn Moortgat, Corey Patton Lossner, Lilian Poling, Holly Stewart and Vanessa Timm.
In addition, on Monday Baptista, Vendrell, Kuljanin, Moortgat, Poling, Stewart and Timm were all named Academic All-Mountain West. Those honors were followed on Tuesday by Baptista, Vendrell, Kuljanin, Lossner, Moortgat, Poling and Timm all receiving Mountain West Scholar-Athlete accolades for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
The eight Broncos were among 51 student-athletes from the Mountain West Conference honored by the ITA.
To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors an individual must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
