BOISE, Idaho – Reid Kagy (KEG-ee) has been added to the Boise State staff as the Broncos' head strength coach, head coach Andy Avalos announced, Wednesday.
"Reid brings a blue-collar mentality that meshes seamlessly into who we are, and I absolutely believe in his ability to develop our student-athletes both on the field and off," Avalos said. "He will be a major part of how we are building the young men brought into this program to contribute as members of this football team, but also within the Treasure Valley community."
Kagy and Avalos spent the past two seasons together at Oregon. In his role as assistant strength and conditioning coach, Kagy helped the Ducks win back-to-back Pac-12 titles and the 2020 Rose Bowl and make an appearance in the 2021 Fiesta Bowl.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work with an elite head coach in Andy Avalos, but the prestige of Boise State is also what drew me here," Kagy said. "The Broncos have a national reputation for a blue-collar work ethic, and I'm looking forward to working with the student-athletes in this program."
During his time in Eugene, Kagy worked closely with the sports science department and athletic training staff in analyzing tools such as GPS to aid in the direction of the program.
Prior to Oregon, Kagy was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Iowa State from 2016-18. The Cyclones won eight games in each of his final two seasons, captured the 2017 Liberty Bowl and played in the 2018 Alamo Bowl.
A native of Bloomville, Ohio, Kagy was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cincinnati for two years after one year as a graduate assistant with the Bearcats.
During his stint at Cincinnati, he worked with baseball, football, women's golf, men's soccer, swimming and track & field.
Kagy is a 2012 Ohio State graduate. He and his wife, Karlyn, have a daughter, Kennedy, and a son, Xander.
