This schedule replaces the postponed fall 2020 slate.
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State released its 2021 spring schedule for women's volleyball Thursday afternoon. This schedule is the replacement for the postponed fall 2020 slate. The lineup features 16 Mountain West Conference matches with the Broncos hosting eight. The season begins the first week of February and runs through the first week of April with the first contests tentatively scheduled for Feb. 5-6 at San Jose State.
One unique aspect of this year's schedule will have the Broncos playing the same opponent on back-to-back days and at the same location for the first six weeks of the schedule. The final three weeks will have the Blue and Orange facing the other four members of the league once each to close the regular season, two at home and two on the road.Â
The Mountain West has been allotted one berth into the NCAA Tournament — which begins the second week of April — meaning only the MW regular-season champion will advance this year.
Boise State will host five of the MW teams starting on Feb. 12-13 when the Utah State Aggies come to town. That will be followed Feb. 19-20 when Wyoming visits Bronco Gym for two. New Mexico will be the last team that will play twice in Boise March 5-6, while San Diego State on March 20 and Fresno State on April 3 — the regular season finale — will play only once.
The season begins on the road at San Jose State Feb. 5-6. The Broncos' other trips will include: at UNLV (Feb. 26-27), at Nevada (March 12-13), at Colorado State (March 25) and at Air Force (March 27).
The Broncos are currently in preseason training in preparation for the 2021 spring opener. Boise State returns five starters and the libero, as well as 10 letterwinners and two redshirts from 2019, and four newcomers. In addition, Lauren Ohlinger the 2019 MW Freshman of the Year, Jessica Donahue an All-MW honoree and Danielle Boss, who was honorable-mention All-MW, return as well.Â
At this point no fans will be allowed into matches this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, all contests will be broadcast live on the MW Network free of charge.
