Broncos Add Venezuelan Standout Marruffo to 2021 Class

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Director of Tennis and women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar is excited to announce the signing of prep-standout Lorelyz Marruffo as a member of the 2021 recruiting class.
Marruffo – a native of Caracas, Venezuela – will be joining the Broncos after an incredible career in the junior ranks. She held the No. 1 junior ranking in Venezuela throughout the various stages of her career. She has also represented her country internationally as a member of the Venezuelan National Team at the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
"First and foremost, Lorelyz is our kind of player and person," said Roghaar. "We are recruiting only the best and student-athletes that are cut from the right cloth for our program and culture. Lorelyz no doubt fits that mold. She works incredibly hard and has that do whatever it takes, blue collar mentality that we thrive on here."
"I wanted to become a part of the Bronco program because of the passion and love that the coaches and players show for tennis, the desire to do great things and the family atmosphere," said Marruffo. "This opportunity means everything to me. It means that all the work and sacrifice has been worth it, and that I can continue to grow and learn to go further, to keep fighting for my dreams."
Marruffo comes to Boise with elite-level international experience for juniors. She was a doubles champion at the 2017 Eddie Herr International Junior Championships and finished in the round of 32 in singles the same year. The Eddie Herr is one of the most prestigious international tournaments, one that brings together the top juniors from all over the world. Past champions include Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic and Andy Roddick. The 5-foot-11 Venezuelan was also the winner of a 2020 Junior French Open wildcard event in Mexico.
"We have been setting a high standard as to the type of student-athlete we bring into our program," said associate head coach Maria Lopez. "High character, hard-working, resilient young women who are excited about challenges and the opportunity to represent the Blue and Orange. Lorelyz represents that and more, she is a player who will bring a lot of high-level experience to our program and her results speak for themselves."
"We recognized very quickly through this process that Lorelyz bleeds blue," said Roghaar. "Her game is very strong and she has a lot of tools that we're excited to develop here in our program. We're definitely fired up about the work our program is doing and where we're heading moving into the future."
