Four Broncos receive MW postseason honors, Bartsch named MW Freshman of the Year

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Boise State's Paige Bartsch, Lauren Ohlinger, Danielle Boss and Alyssa Wissinger were all recognized with Mountain West Conference postseason honors on Wednesday as released by the league's office. Bartsch was named the MW Freshman of the Year, while Ohlinger and Boss received All-MW accolades while Wissinger earned honorable mention status.
Bartsch is the fourth Bronco to earn MW Freshman of the Year recognition since Boise State joined the league in 2011 and the third in the last four seasons. She joins teammates Jessica Donahue (2018) and Lauren Ohlinger (2019), as well as Sierra Nobley (2014) who all earned freshman of the year accolades.Â
Bartsch finished the regular season hitting .332 percent for 115 kills to go with 13 service aces, 33 digs, 43 blocks and 150.5 points. In conference play she hit .346 for a team-second-best 106 kills with 12 service aces, 27 digs, 43 blocks and 140.5 points. Bartsch had five matches in double-digit kills with a high of 12 against Nevada (Oct. 2) and had six contests with four or more blocks with a high of seven in the win over Wyoming (Nov. 18). The native of Helena, Mont., also recorded 10 starts in the 18 matches she played. Â
Lauren Ohlinger received her second-consecutive All-MW honor after earning it last spring as well. The junior outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Broncos in total kills (405), service aces (48) and points (486.0). She also led the MW in total kills, was second in conference and 19th nationally for service aces, second in the league and 46th in NCAA for service aces per set, and second in MW and 39th in NCAA for total points. Ohlinger started all 31 contests in fall 2021 and had 25 matches in double-figure kills. She recorded eight double-doubles and led the team in scoring 19 times, in kills 20 on occasions, service aces 11, digs three and blocks twice. Â Â
Boss is also a two-time All-MW honoree having received the same accolade in spring 2021, she was an honorable mention honoree in 2019. The senior setter is a four-year starter. In fall 2021, she led the conference in total digs with 1,030 and ranked third in assists per set at 10.10. Boss also recorded 94 kills, 22 service aces, a team-second-best 274 digs, 73 blocks and 154.5 points. The Palm Desert, Calif., native recorded a team-high 13 double-doubles on the season. In addition, she became the seventh Bronco ever to reach the 3,000 career assists milestone and currently ranks sixth all-time with 3,181. Boss led the team in assists 28 times, in service aces four times, digs seven and blocks twice.
This is Wissinger's first postseason recognition of her career. The redshirt-junior middle blocker has led the MW most of the season in total blocks and blocks per set. She currently has 134 blocks which ranks 19th nationally and averages 1.37 per set, 12th in the NCAA. She has started in 27 of the 28 matches she has played this season tallying a team-second-best 178 kills, three service aces, 134 blocks and 255.5 points, second on the team in points. The native of Tempe, Ariz., had three matches in double-figure kills and 18 with five or more blocks with a high of 11 at San Diego State (Oct. 30), a career best. Wissinger has led the team in scoring four times this season, once in kills, twice in service aces and 13 times in blocks.Â
The four honorees will lead the Broncos against San Jose State in the opening round of the Mountain West Volleyball Championship later today at Las Vegas with a 2 p.m. (Mountain) first serve in Cox Pavilion at UNLV. Â
