TRINITY, Texas – Boise State men's golfer Hugo Townsend will represent team Sweden at the 2021 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship this week at Whispering Pines Golf Club.
This Spirit is a premier amateur competition featuring the world's best men and women amateurs representing their respective countries in team and individual play. Eighty competitors from 20 countries compete for gold medals in the 54-hole stroke play competition. Each country is represented by two women and two men amateur golfers.
"I'm really proud of Hugo and excited for him to go out there and represent his country and Boise State," said Dan Potter. "This isn't his first time being on the big stage and it definitely won't be the last. He's earned every bit of this opportunity and I can't wait to see him go out and take it."
"It's always an honor to play and represent your country, especially in one of the best amateur team completions," said Townsend. "I'm excited to get playing on Thursday and hopefully it will be a good one for us this week!"
Townsend is fresh off of a fall season with Boise State in which he finished in the top 25 of all five tournaments. The Boden, Sweden, native has also been in the top 25 of the PGATour U rankings all season and currently sits 22nd.
The championship will be held Nov. 4-6, and will be available via livestream during competition on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com. GOLF Channel will present the highlight show in primetime, from 5-7 p.m. MT on Dec. 9, followed by an encore presentation on Dec. 11 from 2-4 p.m. MT.
