Dan Potter enters his seventh season as Boise State men's golf head coach.
In 2019-20, the Broncos earned a fourth-place finish at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, their best effort in seven tournaments, before the remainder of the season was cancelled, March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boise State recorded five top-three finishes in 2018-19, including the tournament title at the Bill Cullum Invitational in October. The Broncos added runner-up performances at the Desert Classic in February and the BYU Cougar Classic in April. Potter also guided the Broncos to four top-three team finishes in 2017-18.
Potter led the Broncos to their best campaign in nearly 10 years in 2016-17, as Boise State claimed the Del Walker Intercollegiate title in February 2017, the program's first tournament team crown since October 2013, and finished third at the 2017 Mountain West Championships, the program's top Mountain West finish since joining the conference in 2011-12. The Broncos finished the event at 16-under, just two strokes behind champion UNLV.
Under Potter's tutelage, Brian Humphreys went on to claim medalist honors at three events in his debut season (2016-17), including becoming the first freshman to win the Mountain West individual championship. Humphreys shot 12-under to capture a two-stroke victory over teammate Donny Hopoi (-10), earning an automatic invitation to the NCAA Regional at Stanford, where he became the first Bronco since T.K. Kim in 2013 to play at a regional.
Potter has overseen Broncos finishing in the top 15 at each of the past five Mountain West Championships (no tournament in 2020), including four individuals earning a top five.
Shane Allor and Logan France were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars in 2014-15, the first such honors for a Bronco in five years. Boise State also placed six individuals on the Spring Academic All-Mountain West Team, and had five golfers receive 2014-15 MW Scholar-Athlete Award recognition, one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference.
Potter joined the Broncos from Washington, his alma mater, where he served as an assistant coach during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. In his two seasons with the Huskies, Potter helped coach two individuals to the No. 1 position in the World Amateur Golf Rankings - Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsung Pan. Williams, originally from Moscow, Idaho, earned the Ben Hogan Award in 2013, the most prestigious award in collegiate golf. He also received the McCormack Medal in 2012 as the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Pan, a junior with the Huskies in 2013-14, competed in the 2013 U.S. Open and qualified for the 2015 edition of The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Potter helped lead Washington to top-16 finishes at the NCAA Championships in both 2013 and 2014. The Huskies also concluded the 2012-13 season ranked sixth-nationally in Golfstat, and 11th-nationally in 2013-14.
Washington finished runner-up at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships, and took third place at the league tournament in 2013. Seven Huskies earned All-Pac-12 recognition with the help of Potter's guidance, three were named All-America and one was named Academic All-America.
In 2013, Washington signed the nation's eighth-best recruiting class, and in 2014, the Huskies signed two of the top three high school seniors in Washington and the top-ranked recruit in British Columbia.
Originally from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Potter played collegiate golf for Washington from 2000-04, earning a bachelor's degree in political science.
