Townsend Finishes Runner-Up at The Spirit

TRINITY, Texas – Boise State men's golfer Hugo Townsend shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of play to finish runner-up individually and secure a gold medal for the Sweden men's team at the 2021 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship.
Townsend (73-70-69—212) shot 4-under overall and finished just two strokes behind the United States' Sam Bennett, who is ranked sixth in the USGA World Amateur Golf Rankings. The Bronco finished ahead of names like Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira of Argentina and James Piot of the United States, ranked 32nd and 61st respectively.
Team Sweden took home the men's team gold medal after finishing one stroke ahead of the United States and two ahead of Canada. Townsend's teammate, Albin Bergstrom, finished eighth individually and shot 1-over. Sweden's combined team – which included two male and two female athletes – earned a bronze medal behind the United States and Canada.
Townsend and the Broncos have wrapped up their fall slate and are currently ranked 51st in the latest GolfStat rankings. Boise State resumes action in February, traveling to play in the Wyoming World Match Play in Palm Desert, Calif.
