COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State forward Tyson Degenhart was named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 6-12, the league announced Monday. Degenhart helped the Broncos to a pair of wins last week, averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. It is the first player of the week award for Boise State this season.
Degenhart scored 21 points Dec. 7 at CSUN, lifting Boise State to its first true road win of the season – the first Mountain West freshman to score 20 points in a game this season. He became the 12th freshman in school history with 20 points in a game and the first since Justinian Jessup (Nov. 25, 2016). Degenhart is the first Bronco freshman to reach 20 points in a road game since Anthony Drmic (Nov. 22, 2011) and just the fifth all-time.
The Broncos returned home Dec. 10, to take on Prairie View A&M and Degenhart registered his fourth consecutive double-figure scoring game. He tallied 16 points, six rebounds and a career-high three steals in a 97-60 victory. Degenhart made 4-of-5 three-pointers against the Panthers.
The Spokane, Wash., native shot 56.5 percent from the field and 70 percent from three-point range on the week, hitting 7-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup the last four games, Degenhart is averaging 14.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 34 minutes per game. On the season, he has appeared in all 10 games, averaging 7.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game.
Degenhart and the Broncos put their three-game win streak on the line Tuesday, at home against Santa Clara. Tipofff is slated for 7 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena. Tickets are available at BroncoSports.com/tickets.
