BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics is promoting two members of its Olympic Sports Performance, Health and Wellness team to assistant athletic directors and a third to director level as part of its overall enhancement to the SPHW unit, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Thursday.
Keita Shimada has been promoted to assistant athletic director of sports performance, health and wellness for Olympic sports medicine, and will oversee the Olympic sports athletic training staff. Shimada will focus his attention on developing the SPHW team with the ever-changing dynamics of athletic medicine.  Â
Tyler Whitmer has been promoted to assistant athletic director of sports performance, health and wellness for Olympic sports performance. In addition to leading the Olympic sports performance coaches, Whitmer will supervise the director of sports nutrition, assisting with the development of a robust nutrition program for Bronco student-athletes.
Tyler Smith has been promoted to director of athletic training for Olympic sports, and will oversee student-athlete support services, staff development and certification for the sports performance, health and wellness teams. Additionally, Smith will oversee the director of athletic insurance services, allowing the SPHW team to have greater insight to areas that affect our overall care model for all student-athletes.
"These promotions recognize the leadership and dedication of our staff and will better define roles within our Olympic SPHW team," Dickey said. "The collaborative care model our team has developed within mental health, nutrition, sports medicine and strength and conditioning allows us to provide better overall holistic care and support for our student-athletes on a day-to-day basis."
Boise State Athletics recently launched Broncos United, an internal initiative that focuses on the investment in our most important asset - our people. The initiative keys on six areas, combining to create a holistic environment of supporting student-athletes, coaches and staff. The Broncos' SPHW unit directly impacts all six components - physical health and wellness, mental health and wellness, personal growth and development, professional development, community and equality/belonging.
