FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Abby Muse scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Boise State's 81-77 loss at Colorado State in the Mountain West opener for both schools.
Muse's double-double was her second-straight, fourth of the season and fifth in her career.
"Our kids came of age a little bit and I hope that is something we can begin to count on," Boise State Head Gordy Presnell said. "We had a couple of tough calls there at the end that could have made a difference. There were other plays we made some mistakes on where we could have done something different."
The Broncos (4-8, 0-1 MW) trailed by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, and were behind 74-66 with just over minute to play.
Mary Kay Naro trimmed the lead to five with a 3-point play on the next possession. After a free throw by Colorado State (10-1, 1-0), Dominique Leonidas knocked down a jumper to pull the Broncos within 75-71.
The Rams added a pair of free throws before Anna Ostlie drilled a 3-pointer to make the score 77-74 with under 40 seconds to play. Colorado State missed a pair of free throws, Muse made 1 of 2 at the line and the Rams converted 1 of 2 to go up 78-75 with 24 seconds remaining.
A turnover by Boise State led to a pair of Colorado State free throws before Muse scored with nine ticks left to cut the deficit to 80-77. The Rams made 1 of 2 at the line on their next possession to account for the final score.
Leonidas (18), Naro (16) and Trista Hull (10) each joined Muse in double-figure scoring.
The Broncos host New Mexico at 2 p.m., Friday.
