Broncos Outshoot Owls

12/5/2021 4:31:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho Trista Hull, Abby Muse and Anna Ostlie combined for 50 points and Boise State defeated visiting Florida Atlantic 76-64 in nonconference women's basketball at ExtraMile Arena, Sunday.

With the victory, the Broncos snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-5. The Owls dropped to 3-5.

"Anna (Ostlie) and Kaitlin (Burgess) played with confidence and hit shots early," Boise State Head Coach Gordy Presnell said. "Abby (Muse) and Trista (Hull) were outstanding. Trista has a big upside."

Ostlie scored 10 of her career-high 18 points in the first quarter and the Broncos led 27-14 after 10 minutes. The 27 points equaled the most Boise State has scored in a quarter this season and the most in an opening period since 27 against New Mexico, Dec. 4, 2019.

In the second quarter, Hull tallied seven of her career-high 16 points and the Broncos outscored the Owls 18-11 to go up 45-25 at the break.

Boise State extended its lead to 50-27 on a layin by Muse at the 8:00 mark of the third quarter. Muse finished with 16 points to tie a career high and a season-high 13 boards for her second-career double-double.

The Owls went on an 18-3 run to cut their deficit to 53-45 in the final minute of the quarter, but a 3-point play by Muse pushed the lead back to 11 entering the fourth period.

Florida Atlantic crept within 56-52 with 8:01 to play before Hull registered eight points during a 10-2 run that gave the Broncos a 66-54 lead with 3:42 remaining.

Burgess just missed becoming a fourth Bronco in double-figure scoring, finishing with nine points.

Boise State, which held a 46-30 advantage on the glass, travels to Eastern Washington for a matchup with the Eagles, Friday at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT.
