BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State defense put together an impressive performance in the team's 2021 Spring Game presented by Cintas, earning a 45-23 win over the offense at Albertsons Stadium, Saturday.
The defense recorded three interceptions and seven sacks, in addition to forcing 11 three-and-outs, en route to 45 points in an adjusted Spring Game scoring system that credited three points per turnover and two point each for sacks and three-and-outs.
Roman Kafentzis, Kaonohi Kaniho and Seyi Oladipo each picked off a pass. Jackson Cravens and Scale Igiehon each registered two sacks, while Shane Irwin, Brock Miller and Riley Whimpey each had one.
Offensively, quarterbacks Hank Bachmeier and Jack Sears each threw a touchdown pass, with Bachmeier hitting Billy Bowens for a six-yard score and Sears throwing a six-yard scoring strike to Tyler Eiguren. Bachmeier completed 15-of-26 passes for 158 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Sears went 11-for-20 for 146 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
The touchdown passes contributed 14 of the offense's 23 points. The Broncos also picked up three points on a 40-yard field goal from Jonah Dalmas, and one point each on six explosive plays.
George Holani led the Broncos with 56 yards rushing on 11 carries, while Maclaine Griffin tied for the team high with four receptions for a Spring Game-leading 58 yards.
Today's game concluded the Broncos' spring practice schedule, the Broncos' first under head coach Andy Avalos.
