Dominant Fourth Quarter Pushes Broncos Past Coyotes

9/20/2026 12:48:00 AM | Football

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State used a strong final frame to outlast South Dakota, 38-24, Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium.

With the game tied at 24 with a little over 10 minutes remaining, Dylan Riley produced two touchdowns to help push the Broncos (2-1) past the Coyotes (3-1). Boise State's defense had a critical fourth-quarter stop under the two-minute mark and a drive later Travis Anderson came up with the game-sealing interception.

South Dakota put the first points on the board, converting a Boise State fumble into a touchdown midway through the first quarter. Boise State answered near the end of the period when Maddux Madsen found Rasean Jones for a 9-yard touchdown reception.

The Coyotes wasted no time, scoring a touchdown again nearly two minutes into the second quarter. The Broncos responded, putting together a 12-play, 70-yard drive capped off with a Sire Gaines 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14 midway through the second quarter.

Travis Anderson recorded his first of two interceptions on the ensuing drive, leading to another Bronco touchdown. Madsen found Cam Bates for a 4-yard touchdown reception, allowing Boise State to take a 21-14 lead into the half.

Canaan Moore made it a two-possession game with a 38-yard field goal midway through the third quarter. South Dakota answered by creating a three-point contest following a 59-yard touchdown pass with a little under three minutes to go in the third frame.

The Coyotes tied the game with a 43-yard field goal with 10:33 to go in the fourth frame. Boise State didn't back down, pulling ahead with a Riley 2-yard touchdown rush with 6:25 left on the clock.

South Dakota rallied, marching down the field for a red zone opportunity under the two-minute timeout. Boise State held firm, turning the Coyotes over on downs with 1:44 to play.

Riley put the exclamation mark with an 83-yard touchdown rush on the first play of the drive. Anderson recorded his second interception on the ensuing drive, securing Boise State's 38-24 victory.
