COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Boise State track and field closed the NCAA West Preliminaries by qualifying two more spots for the NCAA National Championships. Kristie Schoffield locked in her spot in the 800-meter while Clare O'Brien doubled down and earned her second spot at nationals, this time in the 5,000m.
Schoffield needed to run her fastest time of the year and she did when she stepped to the line in the final of the women's 800m. A late push on the back straight helped propel her to a 2:05.06, earning the ninth-qualifying position and a trip to the national championships in Eugene, Oregon.
After thunderstorms postponed the men's events originally scheduled for Friday night. Israel Anaya-Carmona ran the first event of the day for Boise State on Saturday. He raced in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:47.10.
Malia Pivec led the day off for the Bronco women. She lined up for the 3,000m steeplechase and clocked a personal-best time of 10:13.22 to finish eighth in her heat.
Freshman Anita Taviore finished 17th in the women's 200m with a time of 23.46, with that, Taviore's impressive freshman season comes to a close. She broke the school record in the 200m twice including once in the prelims. She also moved into second all-time in program history in the 100m.
