Women's Team Turns In Best MW Finish Ever, 4 Broncos Claim Individual Titles

5/16/2026 11:01:00 PM | Track & Field

The Boise State women finished third, which was their best conference finish since 2010 in the WAC

CLOVIS, Calif. - Kaiya Robertson captured two conference individual titles, Raekwon Weatherspoon (men's long jump) and Alex Thompson (men's 1500 meters) earned gold medals on the men's side, and the women's team had its highest finish ever at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships as Boise State wrapped up the three-day conference meet on Saturday.

Boise State finished third in the women's team standings with 86 points, which was their best placing ever at a Mountain West outdoor championship meet and first top-three finish at a conference outdoor championship since 2010 in the Western Athletic Conference. The 86 points, meanwhile, were the team's most in 12 years as the Broncos scored in 13 different events - their most since 2012.

Robertson paced the women's team thanks to 20 points from individual titles in the 800 and 1500 meter races on Saturday. She successfully defended her title in the women's 1500 by running 4:18.28 - including a 1:02.63 in the final lap - to win her second career individual outdoor conference title. In the 800 later in the evening, she ran a personal-best 2:02.81, fueled by a 1:00.72 final lap, to pick up her third career outdoor Mountain West title and fifth conference championship overall in indoor and outdoor.

Robertson also became the first Bronco in nearly 30 years to win both the women's 800 and 1500 meter in the same conference meet. Niamh Beirne was the only other Boise State runner to achieve the feat when she last did it in 1997 in the Big West.

On the men's side, Weatherspoon earned the Broncos' first individual title of the weekend with a 25'11.5"/7.91m leap in the long jump to claim the crown on Friday. The junior was the first Bronco to win the men's long jump conference championship since 2011.

Thompson came from behind on the final lap of the men's 1500 to beat New Mexico's Collins Kiprotich - who was the defending champion in the event - by 27-hundredths of a second. Thompson was in second place entering the final lap, but with a 53.53 in the final lap compared to Kiprotich's 53.82, he clinched his first career conference championship. He became the first Bronco to win the MW men's 1500 meter title since 2015.

Aayden Simmons, in his first outdoor conference meet, finished second in the men's high jump, long jump and triple jump to finish 24 points and earn the meet's co-men's high point scorer award. The freshman had a personal-best in all three events to claim the silver medals. He is the first Boise State athlete to earn the conference outdoor high-point scorer on the men's side since Kurt Felix in 2012.

The men's team, with 75 points, finished sixth in the team standings, its best place since 2019. The 75 points were also the men's team's most in seven years.

The four individual titles were the most for Boise State since 2019 when it also had four. The Broncos also had 12 podium appearances across the men's and women's events.

Boise State set 26 personal-bests throughout the meet as well as one program-record (Addy MacArthur, women's discus) and eight top-five marks in program history.

Notables
  • Robertson was also the first runner to win the women's 800 and 1500 at the MW Outdoor Championships since New Mexico's Josephine Moultrie did in 2013.
  • Robertson is the third Bronco to win back-to-back conference titles in the women's 1500 meters. The last was Alexis Fuller in 2018-19. A Bronco has won the women's 1500-meter Mountain West title five times in the last eight conference meets.
  • Weatherspoon became the first Bronco to win a conference title in the outdoor men's long jump since 2011 when Eetu Viitala won the WAC championship.
  • Weatherspoon's jump of 7.91m/25-11.5 was the second-best jump in program history, trailing only his jump of 7.98m/26.2.25 earlier this season at the Ed Jacoby Twilight.
  • Thompson was the first Bronco to win the MW men's 1500 meter title since David Elliott in 2015.
  • It was the first time Boise State swept the men's and women's 1500 meters at a conference championship since 2007 (WAC - Ty Axtman and Breanna Sande).
  • Simmons' second-place finish in the men's high jump was the best by a Bronco in the conference meet since 2014.
  • Victoria Lotz's finish in the women's hammer throw was the best by a Bronco at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships since 2014.
  • Addy MacArthur and Lotz became the first Broncos to score in the women's shot put since 2017.
  • MacArthur's discus throw of 164-2/50.05m was a program record for the Broncos. The freshman scored three points for the team with the throw as she placed sixth in the event. It was the highest finish by a Bronco in the women's discus at the MW Outdoor Championships, and she is only the second Bronco to ever score points in the event during Boise State's MW era.
  • Emily Stefan's third-place in the heptathlon was the highest finish by a Bronco in the event at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships since 2012.
  • Stefan's long jump performance made it the first time the Broncos have scored points in the women's long jump since 2013.

  • Lawyer was the first Bronco to score in the 110 hurdles at the MW outdoor championships since 2016 and best finish by Boise State in the event since Justin Malnes placed fourth in 2014.
  • Josh Green was the first Bronco to advance to the MW finals in the men's 200 since 2021.
  • Tanner Nett's shot put on Friday of 60-3/18.36m was the fifth-best in program history.
