Strong Second-Half Defense Propels Broncos Past Wildcats

BOISE, Idaho – A strong defensive stand in the second half pushed Boise State to a 63-52 win over Weber State, Sunday, at ExtraMile Arena.
The Wildcats (0-1) raced out to a quick 12-4 lead, but the Broncos ended the first quarter on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to six after ten minutes of play. Though Boise State struggled to score in the second quarter, a smothering defense allowed the team to claw back into the game, including a Jayda Clark layup with five seconds left in the half to give the Broncos a 25-24 lead heading into the break.
The Bronco defensive effort continued in the third quarter, forcing six Weber State turnovers. Dani Bayes and Abby Muse combined for 13 points to lead a 15-3 run and increasing the Bronco lead to 44-31 entering the final quarter. The Wildcats got within seven in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos finished the game shooting 7-of-10 from the free throw line to close out the game.

- Dani Bayes scored 12 of her season-high 16 points in the second half.
- The Broncos held the Wildcats to 27.1 percent shooting from the field, the lowest amount a team has shot against the Blue and Orange this season.
- Boise State forced 22 turnovers, the most in a game this season. The Broncos recorded nine steals resulting in 14 points off turnovers.
- Abby Muse and Dani Bayes have both scored in double-figures in every game this season.
- Boise State outscored Weber State 19-7 in the third quarter.
