Gaels Top Broncos in Overtime

BOISE, Idaho – Saint Mary's defeated Boise State 68-65 in a thrilling overtime battle, Saturday, at ExtraMile Arena.
Leading 27-26 at the half, guard Mary Kay Naro scored eight straight Bronco points in the third quarter to give the team a seven-point lead, its largest of the game. The Gaels (6-3) stormed back, draining a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left to take a 45-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
The teams exchanged buckets early in the fourth quarter, with an Abby Muse layup tying the game at 55 with three minutes remaining. After a jumper from Jade Kirisome gave Saint Mary's a 57-55 lead, Muse hit two free-throws to tie the game at 57 with 1:03 left. Mandy Simpson had a block on the defensive end to force a shot clock violation, but missed a jumper with seven seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
The Gaels jumped out to a quick lead in overtime, but Mya Hansen and Elodie Lalotte scored back-to-back baskets to pull Boise State (3-7) within three with 44 seconds remaining. After a defensive stop, the Broncos drew up a play for freshman guard Dani Bayes, who had a corner 3-point attempt halfway down the hoop before bouncing out. Saint Mary's missed both of its free throw attempts, but a Boise State turnover on the ensuing inbound sealed the game.
