TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 21 Boise State gymnastics fell on the road to No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 15 Arizona State in a tri meet hosted by the Sun Devils, Friday night.
The Broncos posted a score of 195.775 to finish third in the meet. The Sooners scored 197.625 to finish on top, while the Sun Devils took second with a 196.800.
"This was a tough one for us," said head coach Tina Bird. "We are ready to get back in the gym this week and make some improvements so that we can be back to our normal selves this coming weekend at the MRGC Championships."
As has been the case all season, the bars rotation was the star of the night with Boise State. Emily Lopez, Emily Muhlenhaupt and Alexis Stokes each scored 9.900 or better, the fourth time this year the trio has done so and the third time in as many meets. Lopez and Stokes scored a pair of 9.900s, while Muhlenhaupt scored 9.925 to lead Boise State to a 49.375 in the first rotation.
Adriana Popp scored a team-high 9.900 on beam for Boise State in the second rotation as the Broncos scored 48.725. On floor Emma Loyim and Elaina McGovern each scored 9.800s, while Courtney Blackson led the way with 9.850 as Boise State finished the third rotation with a 48.875. In the final rotation Lopez and freshman Alyssa Vulaj each scored 9.825 on vault to lead Boise State to a 48.800 to close out the night.
Next week the Broncos wrap up the regular season by hosting the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships, Saturday (March 19). The quad meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. MT, and tickets can be purchased on BroncoSports.com.
