BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – For the third time in as many seasons Boise State gymnast Emily Muhlenhaupt was named a First Team Regular Season All American on bars, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced Thursday morning.
Muhlenhaupt earned the honor after posting a National Qualifying Score of 9.945, just shy of matching her career-high 9.950 set during the 2021 season. Her NQS is tied for the sixth-highest in the nation and leads a Boise State bars rotation that is top-10 in the country.
"Emily has been an amazing asset to our program and is the most beautiful bar worker," said head coach Tina Bird. "We are so happy that she is being recognized for the third year in a row and are so very proud of her."
Muhlenhaupt joins Julie Wagner, Ciera Perkins and Shani Remme as the only Broncos to be named All-America - first or second team - three separate times in a career. When Muhlenhaupt earned the honor for the first time in 2020, she became just the third Bronco to ever be named a first-team All-American. Last season, she became the first Boise State gymnast to earn first-team honors more than once.
Last week the Colorado native was named the MRGC Bars Specialist of the Year for the third-straight season and won her second-straight MRGC Bars Championship with a 9.950. Earlier this season Muhlenhaupt broke the Boise State record for bars wins in a career, passing Lindsay Ward's mark of 20 that stood for over a decade.
Muhlenhaupt and the rest of the Broncos have their sights set on the second round of the NCAA Regional Championships, Thursday (March 31), in Norman, Okla. Boise State, the 24th-ranked team in the country, takes on No. 8 Minnesota, No. 9 California and No. 25 Utah State at noon MT with an opportunity to advance to the regional final on the line. Broadcast and live stats information will be made available on BroncoSports.com in the coming days.
