Broncos Fall 4-2 to San Jose State at MW Championship

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. – Boise State women's tennis fell 4-2 to San Jose State Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Championship. Holly Stewart led the Broncos against the Spartans earning victories in singles and doubles.
Boise State opened the match by taking the team point in doubles 2-0. Stewart and Shauna Heffernan recorded the first win over San Jose State 6-2 on court two to take the early advantage. The Bronco duo finished the year with a team-best 13-4 record.
Joana Baptista and Nicole Discenza clinched the doubles point for the Broncos with their 11th victory of the year, a 6-4 win over SJSU's Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas at the No. 1 position.
San Jose State came back early in singles, taking a 2-1 lead with wins on courts two and six.
Stewart brought the Blue and Orange even again with a three-set win at No. 3 singles. The junior from New Zealand defeated the Spartans' Rozalina Youseva 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to become the third Bronco since 2015 to record 20 wins in a season. She finished the campaign at 20-9 overall.
The remaining three contests went to third sets before San Jose State pulled it out with victories at No. 5 and 4 singles.
The final match was abandoned once SJSU clinched the victory; Pauline Ernstberger was tied 3-6, 6-4, 5-5 on court one at the time.
Boise State finishes the 2022 campaign with an 8-8 overall record and a 4-6 league mark. All eight Broncos are expected to return for the 2022-23 season.
