BOISE, Idaho – Boise State safety JL Skinner was named to his second preseason watch list of 2022, being recognized as a candidate for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Tuesday.

Skinner was named to the 2022 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, Monday.

This year's preseason watch list included 85 defensive standouts from 61 schools in all 10 Division I FBS conferences plus independents. The list is comprised of 25 linebackers, 18 safeties, 17 defensive ends, 13 cornerbacks and 12 tackles.

A native of San Diego, Calif., Skinner was selected to the 2022 Preseason All-Mountain West Team. He earned second-team all-conference accolades in 2021, leading the Broncos in tackles (92), solo tackles (66) and fumble recoveries (three), and his two forced fumbles tied for first among Boise State defenders last season. He also recorded seven tackles-for-loss, five pass breakups and two interceptions, marks that tied for the second-most on the team last season.

The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Nov. 16., and the winner will be unveiled Dec. 5.
