Boise State loads up on neutral and road games with postseason resume on the mind
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's basketball has announced the remainder of its schedule, head coach Leon Rice announced on Thursday.
The Broncos will open the season on Nov. 9, hosting South Dakota State – a 30-win team last season – at ExtraMile Arena, while eight additional games have been announced. In total the guaranteed nonconference opponents went 222-145 (.605) a season ago, with seven of the 11 opponents winning 20 games and six reaching the postseason.
Boise State will play seven nonconference games away from ExtraMile Arena this season – tied for first with Nevada among Mountain West schools which have already announced their full schedule.
Following the season opener, the Broncos will play a neutral-site game against Washington State at Idaho Central Arena in Downtown Boise, Nov. 12, before heading to the previously announced Myrtle Beach Classic, Nov. 17-20, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Myrtle Beach Classic field features four teams coming off postseason appearances, with the seven other schools going 130-73 (.640) in 2021-22.
Following Boise State's run in South Carolina, the Broncos return home for games against Utah Valley, Nov. 26, and CSUN, Nov. 29.
On Dec. 3, the Broncos make a trip to Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, for The Battleground 2k22. Boise State will draw Texas A&M at the event – a team that went 27-13 last season and reached the NIT Championship Game.
The Broncos will host Eastern Oregon, Dec. 6, before traveling to St. Louis, Mo., for a game at Saint Louis on Dec. 10. The Billikens have made each of the last three postseasons, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
Boise State returns home for back-to-back games against New Orleans (Dec. 13) and Oakland (Dec. 18), before closing out the nonconference slate at Santa Clara, Dec. 22.
Mountain West play opens for the defending conference champions at Nevada, Dec. 28.
Season tickets are available now and can be purchased online, in person at the Boise State Athletic Ticket Office, or by calling 208-426-4737. Season tickets in the lower bowl are 97-percent sold out, while tickets in the second level are 85-percent sold out.
The Broncos return All-Mountain West guard Marcus Shaver, Jr., and Mountain West Freshman of the Year Tyson Degenhart from last year's squad which won the regular season title outright, as well as the conference tournament title. Boise State won a school-record 27 games while earning its highest national seed for the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Leon Rice, the all-time wins leader in program history, enters his 13th season at the helm of the program with a 244-145 record. Rice has led the Broncos to eight postseason appearances, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
