BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis turned in a convincing victory in its 2023 season opener, defeating Montana State 4-1 Friday morning at Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

A pair of 6-2 victories on courts two and three secured the doubles point for the Broncos (1-0), giving them a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats (1-1) headed into singles play. Boise State struck first in singles as Holly Stewart cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory on court three, creating a 2-0 advantage for the home team. Shauna Heffernan followed suit with a 6-4, 6-0 win of her own on court six, pushing the Broncos to the brink of clinching the match.

After Montana State claimed a win on court five, Joana Baptista came through for the Blue and Orange with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jazmin Lerman on court four, clinching the season-opening win for Boise State.

"I saw a lot of great stuff today," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "That was a big test for us. Montana State has some good players who are inspired and playing really good right now, and we knew this would be a big test for us right out of the gate."
