Broncos Selected to Finish Fourth in MW Preseason Poll
LAS VEGAS – Senior forward Abby Muse earned a place on the 2023-24 Preseason All-Mountain West Team, the conference announced at its media day, Wednesday.
Boise State was also picked to finish fourth in the league's preseason poll.
Muse, the reigning MW Defensive Player of the Year, was one of only five players from the conference selected to the team. The honor marks the first preseason all-conference accolade Muse has received in her career. She was named All-MW Honorable Mention last season, alongside teammate Elodie Lalotte. The 6-3 senior is the first Bronco to garner preseason All-MW laurels since Mallory McGwire prior to the 2020-21 season.
A Brentwood, Calif., native, Muse started in all 33 games for the Broncos in the 2022-23 campaign, averaging 9.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and a league-high 2.8 blocks per game. She became the program's all-time leader in career blocks (171) and single-season blocks (93) last season. She recorded eight blocks against New Mexico on Jan. 21, making her one of six players nationally to have blocked eight or more shots in a single game.
In the conference preseason poll, Boise State was picked to finish fourth with 201 points. UNLV was selected to win the conference, receiving 24 of 27 first-place votes and 284 points. Colorado State came in second with 245 points, including one first-place vote. Wyoming received the final two first-place votes and was selected third with 237 points.
San Diego State was slated fifth with 183 points while New Mexico gathered 168 points for a sixth-place projection. Air Force notched 128 points while Nevada received 111 points to finish seventh and eighth, respectively. San Jose State (93 points), Fresno State (89 points) and Utah State (43 points) rounded out the conference.
The Broncos are coming off a 17-16 campaign (11-7, MW) in which they finished the season winning eight of its last 11 contests. The team brings back 14 returners, including all five starters.
Boise State opens its exhibition slate with a home matchup against The Master's on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. MT. The 2023-24 season officially begins on Monday, Nov. 6 against College of Idaho at ExtraMile Arena.
