
Boise State’s McGirr Named MW Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State sophomore Bella McGirr has been named this week's Mountain West Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 2-8.
This is her first player of the week honor in her career, the second MW Defensive Player of the Week honor for the program this year, joining Breanna Mitchell, who received the accolade on Sept. 18.
McGirr earned her first two starts of the season at libero over the weekend, helping the Broncos to a home sweep, averaging 15.5 digs per match in 3-0 wins over Fresno State and Nevada.
On the week, the sophomore from Novato, Calif. (Marin Catholic HS) tallied a team-high 31 digs with seven assists and was nearly perfect on service receive, making only one error on a team-second-best 25 receptions for a .960 serve receive percentage.
In the win over Fresno State, McGirr recorded a team-high and career-tying 17 digs and was perfect on her 11 service receptions. She also recorded five assists and two service aces.
During Saturday's victory over Nevada, she had a team-second-best 14 digs to go with two assists and one service ace. Her service reception percentage was .929 on 14 receptions with one error.
McGirr and her Bronco teammates will be back in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they host the Utah State Aggies in a battle between the two teams tied for first in the league standings.
