BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's basketball has added a pair of guards -- who were each named their respective state's players of the year – from the Pacific Northwest in Julian Bowie (Pocatello, Idaho | Pocatello HS | Utah Prospects) and Pearson Carmichael (Bend, Ore. | Summit HS | Players Play) as part of their 2024 recruiting class.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Julian and Pearson to the Unbreakable Culture," said head coach Leon Rice. "They're both high character guys who are going to be a great fit within our program. Both Julian and Pearson are versatile, competitive players who are continuing to develop at an elite level. I know Bronco Nation is going to love watching these guys."

Both Bowie and Carmichael are ranked third in their respective states.

Julian Bowie
6'3 Guard
Pocatello, Idaho (Pocatello HS)
Utah Prospects

An in-state prospect, Bowie's experience in big games has made his name known nationally. The guard led Utah Prospects to win the Adidas 3SSB under-17 National Championship – one of the three largest AAU summer all-star basketball circuit tournaments.

Bowie's run through the tournament resulted in a top-100 national ranking as the 90th rated prospect in the country, according to Lindy's Sports.
The guard's success in critical moments was on display at the Idaho 4A tournament in March where he was named the tournament MVP after setting the 4A record with 89 total points. Bowie led Pocatello to a runner-up finish in the state tournament. His game-winning 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds remaining in overtime of the state semifinal advanced his team back to the state title game.

Bowie was named the 4A state player of the year in 2022-23 after averaging 23.3 points, 5.3 rebound and 3.1 assists per game as a junior.

A versatile athlete, Bowie is one of the top prep wide receivers and golfers in Idaho.

Rice on Bowie:  "Julian is a winner – he's won big at the high school level and on the AAU stage. He's risen to the occasion in big games throughout his career. Julian is a versatile guard who can play well on ball and off ball. He's one of the best football players and golfers in the state of Idaho and his athleticism is off the charts."

Pearson Carmichael
6'7 Guard
Bend, Ore. (Summit HS)
Players Play

Carmichael joins the Broncos with impressive credentials entering his senior season at Summit High School.

Carmichael was named to the Class 5A first team in addition to being named the state player of the year at the 5A level. He averaged nearly a double-double (23.5 points, 9.2 rebounds per game) as a junior while shooting 65-percent from the field and 40-percent from three. Summit reached the 5A state final where it finished as the runner-up.

As a sophomore playing off the bench, Carmichael averaged 7.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, where the Storm finished as the 6A state runners-up.

Carmichael comes from an athletic family. His brother, Hogan, is a freshman quarterback at Idaho, while both his parents were college athletes as well.

Rice on Carmichael: "Pearson is a very competitive kid from an extremely athletic family of college athletes. He can score at all three levels and has done a great job developing his game in the post. He's still growing physically and there's no limit to his upside as a player."
