Red zone results mark difference in score
The Broncos (8-6, 6-2 MW) scored on all four of their drives in the first half, with Jonah Dalmas converting a pair of field goals in the first quarter. UCLA's Collin Schlee threw a 5-yard touchdown to Hudson Habermehl to give the Bruins (8-5, 4-5 Pac 12) the lead after one quarter, but Dalmas and the Broncos answered with another field goal. The Clydesdale package made an appearance and punctuated another Bronco scoring drive with a Holani 1-yard touchdown, putting the Broncos ahead 16-7 at halftime.
Ethan Garbers entered the game after an injury to Schlee and finished a UCLA drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Ford. The Bruins took a 21-16 lead later in the quarter, as T.J. Harden punched in a 1-yard touchdown. Harden tacked on a 14-yard score near the end of the third quarter, then Garbers capped it with a 40-yard touchdown pass to J. Michael Sturdivant in the fourth quarter to put the Bruins up 35-16.Â
Holani scored his second touchdown of the night on a 66-yard strike with 5:09 in the contest to cut the deficit to 13. After a failed onside kick, UCLA ran out the clock to solidify the bowl victory.
Top Broncos
- George Holani scored two touchdowns and rushed for 138 yards. The redshirt senior also added 45 receiving yards.
- Ashton Jeanty recorded 102 total yards, rushing for 85 yards and catching four passes for 17 yards.
- Alexander Teubner recorded a team-high 12 tackles on the night.
- Jonah Dalmas made all three of his field goal attempts.
Notables
- The Broncos rushed for 215 yards in the contest, the most rushing yards UCLA has allowed in a single game on the season.
- Boise State scored on every possession of the first half, marking the first time the Broncos have done so since the first half of Boise State's 31-24 win at Colorado State on Nov. 29, 2019. The Broncos scored three consecutive touchdowns and then kicked a field goal in the first half.
- George Holani scored two touchdowns on the night to reach 26 career rushing scores. UCLA only allowed three rushing touchdowns on the season prior to the game.
- Holani moved to fifth all-time in program history with 685 career rushing attempts. The redshirt senior passed Jay Ajayi (2012-14, 678 attempts) and Rodney Webster (1980-83, 672 attempts).
- Jonah Dalmas made three field goals in the contest, moving his season total to 24 made field goals, tying Tyler Jones (2004) for the third-most in a season in program history.
- Dalmas also tied the program's single-game total for most field goals in a postseason game.
