Boise State Drops Contest Against UNLV

2/11/2023 5:23:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho – UNLV used a strong second half to outlast Boise State 76-63, Saturday, in ExtraMile Arena.

The two sides kept the game within a possession for a majority of the first half. Tatum Thompson got off to a hot start for the Broncos (13-14, 8-6 MW), scoring 12 points in the opening period on 5-of-6 shooting. Both teams shot above 50% from the floor in the first quarter as the Lady Rebels (24-2, 14-0 MW) took a 24-23 lead. The two teams continued to battle, scoring 16 points each in the second period as UNLV took a one-point lead into the break.

The Broncos took advantage of a slow start by both teams, with Thompson scoring five straight points to go up by four. UNLV responded with a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter to take a 58-52 advantage with one quarter left to play.

The Broncos couldn't whittle the deficit any closer, shooting 26.3% from the floor in the final quarter. An Abby Muse layup with 4:33 on the clock cut the Lady Rebel lead to seven, but UNLV tightened up defensively, allowing only one more Boise State field goal for the remainder of the game.

Quotables

"We played a really good team tonight and we played them pretty good for three quarters. Their experience took it to us down the stretch. We didn't execute and do the things that we needed to do to get a win." - head coach Gordy Presnell

"UNLV took it up a notch in the second half and we didn't hit shots. We go through dry spells sometimes and we went through one tonight and it cost us. We just have to keep grinding." – Presnell

"Tatum had a great first half. She hit some big shots for us when we couldn't score. We're excited about her growth and what she can do for our program." – Presnell
