BOISE, Idaho – Five Boise State student-athletes were named to the NCAA Division I CSC Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Communicators announced Tuesday.
Bronco gymnasts Courtney Blackson, Emily Lopez and Adriana Popp and beach volleyball student-athletes Joey Benson and Rorianna Chartier were each recognized for their combined academic and athletic performances.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must play in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale. Individuals must have completed a full academic year at their current institution.
Blackson (3.79, health science) tied for national runner-up accolades on vault at the 2023 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship (April 13), garnering first-team All-America honors for her performance.
A native of Elk Grove, Calif., Blackson was tabbed to the all-conference first team on bars and floor, and the second team on vault. She captured the vault title at the MRGC Championships (March 18) and was a seven-time MRGC Specialist of the Week in 2023.
A marketing major, Lopez boasts a 3.74 GPA. She was a two-time second-team All-American on bars in 2023, advancing to the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship (April 13), finishing tied for 18th.
Lopez was named the MRGC Bars Specialist of the Year and Co-Vault Specialist of the Year. She garnered all-league first-team recognition on bars for the third-consecutive year and was also a first-team selection on vault. A 13-time MRGC Specialist of the Week, Lopez captured five individual titles of bars, three on vault and a pair on beam in 2023.
A native of Easton, Pa., Popp (3.79, business administration) competed in each of the Broncos' 12 meets on both vault and beam and made two appearances on floor. She was named to the All-MRGC Second Team on both vault and beam and earned a trio of conference specialist of the week awards during the season.
Benson (3.82, kinesiology) won 23 matches on the season, breaking the program-record for most wins in a single season. Benson and her partner Aris Vetter were the top No. 5 pair in the Southland Conference, garnering first-team all-conference honors. She has won a total of 53 duals over the course of her career, the second-most in program history.
Majoring in biology, Chartier holds a 3.67 GPA. She played in 33 duals for the Broncos this season, finishing with an 18-15 record. She was named SLC Pair of the Week on March 7 alongside partner Ava Anderson. Chartier currently has 51 wins in her career, the third-most in program history.
This marked the third Academic All-District distinction for Popp and the first for Benson, Blackson, Chartier and Lopez. Benson and Chartier are the first beach volleyball players to be named Academic All-District in program history.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. All-America selections will be announced June 22.
