COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State will take part in the inaugural Mountain West women's gymnastics season as the conference announced it will sponsor the sport beginning with the 2023-24 academic year, Wednesday.

Boise State joins Air Force, San Jose State and Utah State as competing institutions in MW women's gymnastics.

"We are excited and grateful that the Mountain West and the Board of Directors supported the addition of women's gymnastics as a sponsored sport," said Boise State Director of Athletics Jeramiah Dickey. "Boise State gymnastics has a proud, long-standing championship tradition and I look forward to supporting our student-athletes and coaches in this new era, as they compete for Mountain West titles."

The Broncos were selected to an NCAA Regional Championships for the 15th-consecutive season in 2023. Boise State defeated BYU in the opening round of competition, earning the highest first-round score at a regional meet since the current format was adopted in 2019.

Juniors Courtney Blackson and Emily Lopez advanced to the 2023 NCAA National Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Blackson was crowned the national runner-up on vault, posting a 9.925, and Lopez tied for 18th on bars with a score of 9.900.

"We are thrilled to be joining the Mountain West in this new era of gymnastics," head coach Tina Bird said. "It is an amazing opportunity for our program and we look forward to competing for Mountain West championships every year. We greatly appreciate the Mountain West Board of Directors and the conference's leadership during this process!"

With the addition of gymnastics as a MW-sponsored sport, 17 of Boise State's 18 programs are now affiliated with the conference. The lone exception is beach volleyball, which competes in the Southland Conference. The Broncos recorded a program-record 25 wins in their first season in the league in 2023 and finished runner-up in the conference tournament.
