BOISE, Idaho – George Holani and Demitri Washington added to the growing list of Boise State football preseason honors, Thursday.
Â
Holani was selected to the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in college football. Washington was selected to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which honors players who combine exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.
A second team All-Mountain West selection last year, Holani started 13 games for the Broncos. The Bellflower, Calif., native recorded 1,390 all-purpose yards, including a team-high 1,157 rushing yards while adding 151 receiving yards on 24 receptions. He also added 82 yards from punt returns. Â
Holani is no stranger to the Paul Hornung Award, as he was named to the award's honor roll in back-to-back weeks last season. He first received the recognition following his performance against San Diego State on Sept. 30, when he rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns while catching three passes for 17 yards. He made the honor roll again the following week after recording 157 rushing yards and catching a five-yard touchdown pass against Fresno State.
Â
Washington started in nine of the 10 games he played last season. He recorded 35 tackles on the year, including 15 solo tackles. He added 5.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks, tied for the most on the team.
Â
Off the field, Washington has been an active member in the community. In February, he participated in Tim Tebow's "Night to Shine" prom for kids with special needs. He also served on a Q&A panel for a student-athlete leadership summit in July.
Â
In the classroom, the Solana Beach, Calif., native has been named Academic All-MW four times and a MW Scholar-Athlete three times.
Â
This preseason, Holani has been named to the MW Preseason All-Conference Team, Athlon Preseason All-MW First Team, Phil Steele All-MW Preseason First Team and was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award. Washington has been named to the Athlon Preseason All-MW Second Team and the Phil Steele All-MW Third Team.
