BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis signee Maya Dutta is set to compete in the Australian Open Junior Championships, starting Jan.17.

Dutta, who signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Broncos next season on Nov. 8, 2023,  will be the first future Bronco to compete in the Australian Open Juniors since Pichittra Thongdach in 2005.

"It's going to be really great to see Maya compete on the biggest stage in the world of tennis at the Australian Open Juniors," head coach Beck Roghaar said. "There aren't many college tennis players that qualify for this prior to coming into school, so it's really special. I think it speaks volumes to the type of player Maya is and how consistent she's been with her results to get herself there."

Dutta, a five-star recruit, currently ranks No. 94 in the World Tennis Tour Junior Rankings and 13th in the country.

The Australian Open Junior Championships is one of the four Junior Grand Slam tournaments played as part of the ITF Junior 18/u world circuit.

"She more than belongs at that level and she's capable of doing great things in the tournament," Roghaar said. "We're proud to have her representing our program at such an elite event and I know the experience she's getting and the matches she's competing in now are going to serve her so well for continued success and growth in the future while here with us.  We'll all be pulling for our Bronco down under!"
