BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar has announced the addition of Masa Viriant to the 2024 recruiting class.

Viriant is from Slovenia and has four national team appearances in her career. She has consistently been ranked as one of the top juniors in Slovenia, rising as high as No. 3 in the national junior rankings. Viriant's, who currently trains at the Piatti Tennis Center in Italy, international success has earned her an ITF World Junior ranking of 465.

The incoming Bronco won the National Vice Championship U16 in Slovenia in 2020. With a long resume of reputable tournament results, including being a finalist for the ITF J30 T.C. Sfax and a semifinalist for the ITF J60 T.C. Carthage, with both taking place in Tunisia in 2023. Viriant also was a finalist for the ITF J4 Theodoros Kalantzis Cup in Greece in 2021.

The Slovenia native's resume continues with a variety of impressive wins. Most notably, Viriant defeated Tyra Caterina Grant (6-2, 6-3) in Italy in 2021, who holds a WTN rating of 12.2 at the time. She also recorded two wins over opponents with WTN ratings of 13.8 and 13.9, Alessandra Teodosescu (6-3, 0-6, 6-3) and Vittoria Paganetti (6-4, 7-6(4)) in Italy in 2021, respectively.

What Roghaar Says:
"Masa is without a doubt our kind of player. She is relentless in her work ethic and has an elite mindset towards training, competition and development each and every day. She's a competitor through and through and her love for the sport brings such a positive energy to everything she does to improve both on and off the court."

"She's extremely dedicated to her professionalism and the environment in our program is going to be such a great place for her to continue to thrive and flourish. Her training at the prestigious Piatti Tennis Center has really helped her learn the ways of champions. Her mindset, preparation, and focus are examples of this. I'd be hard-pressed to say we've ever had anyone more hungry to excel coming into the program. Not only will she get a lot out of her time with us, but she'll give just as much as well."

"Masa's game is so versatile. She has great movement and athleticism that allow her to play all areas of the court. She's a lot to handle for opponents as she has so many different tools. She can play the power game, but can just as quickly switch things up to make the match about a different tool she wants to use. I'm really looking forward to working with Masa as her mindset, drive and attitude are exactly what being a Bronco is all about."

What Viriant Says:
"It means the world to me to have the honor to represent the University and team, all while being able to help and improve at the same time. I am excited to work in an environment that allows me to grow as a person and pushes me to the limit in order to reach my highest potential."

"Coach Roghaar is an incredible, inspiring and committed coach who is always giving support and encouragement to the players. His positive attitude means a lot to my growth here."

"My love for tennis is difficult to describe with words as they don't represent the sufficient amount of joy and happiness that this sport is giving me. These unique feelings of pleasure, excitement, adrenaline and satisfaction are the reason I love and enjoy every step of my tennis journey."

"I would like to come in and contribute positive vibes and a major desire to work and in turn improve every single day to help the team in any way I can. I want to encourage them to push harder and reach higher together."
