BOISE, Idaho - Coming off a 3-8 season in 1993, expectations for the 1994 version of Boise State football were not high, except for those inside the program.Â
In the third game of the 1994 campaign, the Broncos knocked off former Big Sky rival Nevada, 37-27 on The Blue. The Wolf Pack was in its third year of I-A (currently FBS) and went on to finish 9-2 and was co-champion of the Big West. The win improved Boise State to 3-0.
Two weeks later, Boise State won 28-16 at No. 16 Northern Arizona. In November, the Broncos took down No. 1 Montana 38-14 on The Blue and closed the regular season with a 27-24 victory over No. 3 Idaho that broke a 12-game losing streak against the Vandals and clinched the outright Big Sky title.
Boise State won three-straight playoff games at home by a combined 11 points to advance do the I-AA Championship. The victims were No. 18 North Texas, No. 17 Appalachian State and No. 2 Marshall. The magical run came to an end with a 28-14 loss to top-ranked Youngstown State in the title game as the Broncos finished the season 13-2.
This week, Bronco fans can hear stories from members of the 1994 team we Boise State Athletics celebrates the 30th Anniversary.
