BOISE, Idaho — In the team's final nonconference game of the season, Boise State (8-3) defeated Texas Southern (2-9), 81-52, on Tuesday night in front of their home crowd.

The Broncos, who are now 5-0 at ExtraMile Arena, have won 17 consecutive home games against nonconference foes. In total, Boise State has outscored its opponents 440-294 in homes games while winning by an average margin of 29.2 points in those contests.

"I thought we had a great defensive effort, great effort on the glass, and then did some good offensive things, especially in the second half," said Head Coach Leon Rice in his postgame press conference.

Four players scored in double figures, including Tyson Degenhart and O'Mar Stanley who tallied double doubles. Degenhart totaled a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds while Stanley posted 11 points and 10 boards.

Andrew Meadow, who set a career high with four three pointers, recorded 18 points in 25 minutes of play. Alvaro Cardenas filled the stat sheet and collected 11 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

In just his second career start, R.J. Keene grabbed a career high 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. As a team, Boise State grabbed a season-high 56 boards and outrebounded the Tigers by 30.

The Broncos, who had a bit of a slow offensive start, began the game 1-for-6 from the floor. Despite early shots not falling, Boise State shot four free throws in the first four minutes and led 6-5 at the first media timeout.

After Texas Southern tallied the first points of the game, Boise State went on a quick 13-3 run and raced out to an eight-point lead. Meadow sparked the spurt, scoring seven of the team's first 11 points.

The Broncos captured their first double-digit lead of the night and opened up an 18-8 advantage. Cardenas poured in a three-pointer to give Boise State some breathing room.

Despite trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, Texas Southern closed the gap to as little as four before halftime. With the help of a 1-for-8 stretch by Boise State, the Tigers orchestrated a 9-2 run which made it a 29-25 game with 2:58 left to play in the half.

Watching an 11-point lead nearly evaporate, the Broncos closed the period by scoring seven of the final nine points. Boise State, who shot just 34 percent (10-29 FGs) from the field and 21 percent (4-19 3FGs) from distance in the first frame, led by nine at the intermission.

The Broncos' second half start looked vastly different from the opening minutes of the first period. Boise State totaled the first seven points of the frame and extended its lead to 16.

By the time the game reached the halfway point of the second half, the Broncos were in full control. Boise State used an extended 24-7 run to capture a 26-point advantage.

Scoring 46 second-half points, the Broncos led by as many as 36 points in the game. Collectively the team shot 51.6 percent in the final 20 minutes and cruised to an 82-51 victory.

Boise State will have a couple days off before conference play begins. With tip off set for 1:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, the Broncos will host Air Force at ExtraMile Arena.
