Broncos Show Balance in Rout of San Jose State

2/20/2024 11:49:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's basketball secured the 82-50 victory over San Jose State after jumping out to a 38-16 lead heading into the break, Tuesday night at ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos (18-8, 9-4 MW) went on a 21-6 run in the final 11:43 of the first half. RJ Keene II sparked the scoring frenzy with a layup off a steal, followed by a three-pointer. Six Broncos contributed to the run, going 8-for-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The Blue and Orange held the Spartans (9-17, 2-11 MW) scoreless from the 2:51 mark to just five seconds left on the clock before the break. The 16 points is the fewest Boise State has allowed in the first half since holding Wyoming to 14 points on Jan. 26, 2019.

Quotables
  • "Obviously it's good for metrics but you can't take these kinds of wins for granted in the Mountain West," said Chibuzo Agbo. "Really good teams can still lose these kinds of games on any given night in this conference so it felt good to get it done."
  • "At the beginning we came out a bit thirsty and that's because we weren't really doing our own thing good enough," said head coach Leon Rice. "They responded, though, after I got on them in the first timeout and we played the right way, physically and mentally. To go 38-16 in the first half, I'm really proud of the way the guys approached this and it was a great week for us."
