BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar announced the addition of Zdena Safarova to the 2024-25 Bronco roster on Wednesday.
Â
Safarova comes to the Broncos after spending one season on the Oklahoma women's tennis team. Originally from the Czech Republic, she posted a 22-5 overall record and a 13-1 mark at the No. 2 position with partner Julia Garcia Ruiz. Â
Prior to her time at Oklahoma, Safarova had a dominant junior career while playing for the CLTK Prague club as well as representing the Czech Republic internationally. The incoming sophomore has earned a variety of tournament titles, including three ITF W15 doubles titles in addition to winning the UTR 25k Barcelona championship.
Â
Safarova has a career-high ITF ranking of 179 and WTA of 1023 in singles and 751 in doubles. The incoming Bronco jumped from a 1305 ranking to 840 in doubles in one year and moved up 300 spots in singles. Additionally, she has recorded 23 singles wins and 23 doubles wins in WTA tournaments.

What Roghaar Says:
"Zdena is a phenomenal addition to our team and program to close out an incredible class coming this fall. We couldn't have drawn up a better fit for our program and culture as she truly shares the vision for what the future holds for us."
Â
"She's an all-in player and person. Her mindset, professionalism, discipline, game and work ethic are elite. She's going to make an immediate impact here in all of those regards."
Â
"Zdena brings tremendous high-level experience and obviously her results and accomplishments speak for themselves, but what I'm most excited about with Zdena is the potential for so much more. She's incredibly hungry for more, and so are we. We can't wait to get to work."
Â
Â
What Safarova Says:
"I am very excited to continue my tennis journey with the Broncos. It was an easy decision after my visit and I cannot wait to join such an amazing team and community. After seeing the family-orientated team and natural environment, I knew this was the place to develop my career."
Â
"This opportunity is a chance for me to grow as an athlete and person, all while contributing to unlocking our team potential. I will bring passion for continuous improvement, discipline and a positive mindset."
Â
