Kutz joins Bronco Nation following 2.5 years at Texas State, Begins Duties June 17

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Tuesday that Chris Kutz will be joining the department as Associate Athletic Director, Strategic Communications & Brand Advancement.

With more than 13 years of experience in communications, creative services and social media, Kutz has worked at all levels of NCAA Division I. Previous stops include Kansas State and the University of San Diego, in addition to his most recent appointment at Texas State.

Kutz will oversee the strategic communications, media relations, creative services departments and serve on the department's brand committee, while also serving on the senior staff. He is expected to begin his new role on June 17.

He comes to the Treasure Valley following 2.5 years as the Associate Athletic Director, Communications at Texas State. Beginning his tenure in San Marcos, Texas in February 2022, he oversaw communications and creative services. He also advised the department on Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) while serving as primary media contact for football, men's and women's golf and the administration. While there, he led the effort in establishing new in-house storytelling platforms that served as revenue-generating assets in feature writing, podcasts and videos.

He also worked for more than a year with Opendorse, the leading name, image and likeness (NIL) company, as the Ready™ Program Director. In this role, he oversaw athlete NIL education for thousands of student-athletes and worked directly with more than 60 program partners and their administrative staffs on NIL.

Prior to Opendorse, Kutz was the Associate AD of Strategic Communications at his alma mater, the University of San Diego. He served as the department's primary media contact and worked closely with his colleagues on establishing a collaborative communications, social media, and creative services strategy. He was also the communications contact for football, men's basketball, men's soccer, and men's tennis.

At K-State, he started out as the Assistant Director of Athletics Communications in 2013, working primarily with the volleyball, baseball, and women's tennis programs. After spending a year to complete his master's degree, he returned to the Wildcats as the Director of Social Media and Creative Services in November 2017. In this role, he helped develop and carry out a social media strategy and branding efforts for the entire athletic department.

After starting his career at the Pacific Coast League located in Round Rock, Texas, Kutz joined the Fresno Grizzlies – then the Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate of the San Francisco Giants – as the media relations coordinator from 2012 to 2013.

Raised in Madera, California, Kutz graduated from the University of San Diego with a bachelor's degree in business administration in January 2011. He earned his master's degree in regional and community planning from Kansas State in 2017.
