BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State volleyball was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday for its success in the classroom during the 2023-24 academic year. For the sixth consecutive year, the Broncos have earned the AVCA's Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT.

"This is great academic recognition for our program," said head coach Shawn Garus. "It shows that our athletes are focused on what they do in the classroom as much as they are on the court, and hopefully, we can keep our string of years receiving this accolade rolling."

The Broncos combined for a team GPA of 3.508 during the 2023-24 year. Boise State is one of 68 programs – out of 344 NCAA Division I teams – to be recognized by the AVCA and one of two from the Mountain West.

Other national academic accolades came last fall when three Broncos, Paige Bartsch, Bella McGirr, and Noelani Helm, earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition.

The AVCA Team Academic Award is given on an annual basis to programs based on the team's cumulative grade point average (GPA) for a single year. This is the sixth-straight year and seventh time in the last eight that the Broncos have earned this accolade.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
