BOISE, Idaho – Former Bronco Shauna Heffernan will be joining the 2024-25 women's tennis coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Beck Roghaar announced, Monday.

Heffernan competed for the Blue & Orange from 2020-24, where she was a two-time CSC Academic All-District athlete, four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, three-time Academic All-Mountain West and four-time MW Scholar-Athlete. She finished her career 10th all-time in doubles individual wins and holds the eighth-highest No. 1 doubles win percentage in school history.

"Shauna is elite, plain and simple," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "She has a fantastic mind for the game, is a great communicator and is an inspirational servant leader that is going to make a phenomenal impact on each and every player on our team and our program as a whole. Her development as a stud athlete both on and off the court here at Boise State is something I couldn't be more proud of. For her to be able to share her experience, knowledge and gifts with the next generation is something I can't wait to see."

"I am so excited to be joining the coaching staff," said Shauna Heffernan. "Boise State Tennis means the world to me and I can't wait to get stuck in with the team. I know that a great year lies ahead of us."

In her senior season with the Broncos, Heffernan reached the quarterfinals of the pre-qualifying doubles draw in the ITA All-American Championships, marking the best finish at the event since 2008. She also advanced to the round of 32 in the main singles draw of the ITA Mountain Region Championships. In years two and three competing for Boise State, Heffernan posted an impressive 41-19 doubles record between the No. 1-3 positions.

As a freshman athlete at Boise State, Heffernan made an instant impact on the team. She competed at the No. 1 doubles position and also split time between the two through five positions in singles. Heffernan earned All-MW Doubles, ITA Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honors all in her first year of action.

A native of Claremorris, Ireland, Heffernan most recently competed for Team Ireland at the Billie Jean King Cup. She finished the tournament 2-1 in doubles play, defeating Anja Draskovic and Tea Nikcevic of Montenegro and Erna Brdarevic and Claudine Schaul of Luxembourg. This marked the third time in the last four years Heffernan was selected to represent her home country in the tournament.

"Not only has Shauna represented our program at the highest level at the All-American Championships and her name in the record books of Boise State Tennis, but her experience representing Ireland at the international level is going to add so much value to players within our program," said Roghaar.

Prior to Boise State, Heffernan was a standout junior player in Ireland, holding the number one ranking in both national singles and doubles. She was a two-time U18 National Indoor Champion and the winner of the National Spring Championship U18 competition. Additionally, she claimed two ITF titles and won the Capital Inn Reykjavik Open U16 tournament in Iceland.
