1/17/2025 11:54:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Albuquerque, N.M. — Boise State, which trailed by as many as 29 points, fell, 84-65, to the Lobos on Friday night inside The Pit.

The Broncos (13-6, 5-3 MW) dropped their third road game of the season while New Mexico (15-4, 7-1 MW) improved to 10-1 at home.

Tyson Degenhart and Javan Buchanan led the Broncos in scoring and posted 14 points apiece. Julian Bowie and Pearson Carmichael combined for 17 points off the bench while Alvaro Cardenas notched his 500th career assist in the game.

Donovan Dent and Nelly Junior-Joseph each scored 16 points to lead the way for the Lobos. Tru Washington notched 13 points and Mustapha Amzil had 11.

To start the game, New Mexico scored the first eight points. Conversely, Boise State missed its first four shots from the field, turned the ball over twice and trailed, 10-2, upon reaching the first media timeout.

After trimming the deficit to four on multiple occasions, the Lobos created separation and extended their lead to double figures. With 6:29 remaining in the first half, Junior-Joseph scored on a layup, making it a 29-19 game.

Across the final 3:24 in the opening frame, Boise State went scoreless. New Mexico closed the half on a 14-0 run, capped by a mid-range jumper by Dent as time expired.

For the half, Boise State made nine of its 25 field goal attempts and shot just eight percent (1-for-12) from the three-point line. The Broncos turned the ball over nine times, leading to 17 points by the Lobos.

Dent paced all players in the half, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Boise State's 27-point deficit at the intermission represented its largest of the season up to that point.

The Broncos opened the second half with some momentum, scoring the first six points of the period. Degenhart accounted for all six, totaling two layups and a pair of free throws.

Boise State sliced the deficit to 18 in the final period, but that is as close as the team would come. The Lobos claimed their largest lead of the evening and took a commanding 71-42 lead on a pair of made free throws by Amzil.

New Mexico, who shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the floor, never trailed in the contest. The Broncos committed a season-high 17 turnovers, leading to just their second double-digit loss of the year.

Boise State will have four days off before returning to action on Wednesday night. Capping their two-game road trip in Fort Collins, Colo., the Broncos will play Colorado State, with tip off set for 6 p.m. MT.
