COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Zdena Safarova was named the Mountain West Player of the Week while Maya Dutta earned MW Freshman of the week honors, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Â
This marks the first time since 2021 Boise State has earned three weekly awards in a season, and is the first time in program history the team has swept both honors in the same week.
Â
Competing in the No. 1 singles position, sophomore standout Safarova picked up two victories. Her first came in a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Idaho State's Asem Shoybek, then she earned a comeback victory over Gonzaga's Emily Robertson, rallying back from a 5-1 deficit to win 7-6(4), 6-0.
Â
Dutta, who has now earned freshman of the week honors for the second consecutive week, began her weekend with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Idaho State's Stefanya Shalakhova. She followed that up with another dominant win, defeating Gonzaga's Rose Hayes 6-0, 6-1, both at the No. 2 position. The Dallas native is now 36-6 in games and remains undefeated in both sets and matches played this 2025 season.
Â
The two weekly award winners also paired up together at the No. 1 doubles position, keeping their unbeaten doubles record intact. The pair defeated Shoybek and Shalakhova 6-1, and were leading Gonzaga's Safien Boulonois and Robertson 5-4 before the match ended when the Broncos secured the doubles point.
