Koetter and Members of 2000 Bronco Football Team to Raise Blue Chaos Flag

10/31/2025 10:53:00 AM | Football

BOISE, Idaho – Dirk Koetter and members of the 2000 Boise State Football team will hoist the Blue Chaos flag on Saturday before the game against Fresno State.

Koetter, who served as head coach of the 2000 squad, led the team to a 10-2 overall record, including a 5-0 mark in conference play. In its final season in the Big West, the team capped the year with a 38-23 win over UTEP in the Humanitarian Bowl in front of a crowd of more than 25,000 on The Blue. The victory marked Boise State's second consecutive bowl win and helped ignite the decades of success that followed.

Koetter currently serves as the team's senior analyst after spending the 2024 season as offensive coordinator. He helped guide an offense that averaged 466 yards per game, the eighth-most in the nation, en route to capturing the Mountain West championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

"It's been 25 years since I've seen some of those guys. It will be cool to reconnect with them," Koetter said. "This team helped set the standard for what Boise State is now and the incredible bowl streak that we're on."

Among the alumni returning is legendary Boise State quarterback Bart Hendricks, whose name remains scattered throughout the program's record book. He ranks fourth all-time in career touchdowns (78), third in career completions (650) and fifth in career passing yards (9,030). In 2000, Hendricks threw for 3,364 yards and 35 touchdowns and added 269 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

"Boise State fans have high expectations, and they're extremely loyal," Koetter said. "I'm sure there will be plenty of fans at the game who were fans in 2000. Bronco Nation has always done a great job of honoring players from the past, and that will be fun for these guys for sure."

Those returning to be honored will also be welcomed at a private dinner hosted by Varsity B on Friday night.

Former Bronco tight end and wide receiver Jeb Putzier and Koetter will both join the Bronco Tailgate Show at 11:30 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. MT, respectively, before the game against the Bulldogs. Fans can listen live on KBOI 93.1 FM, 670 AM and the Varsity Network, or watch in-person in front of the Boise State Hall of Fame.
