BOISE, Idaho - Austin Mullen has been named the new Associate Athletic Director of Development for Boise State Athletics. In his role, he will oversee the major gifts team and will serve as the athletics liaison to the development team within the Boise State University Foundation.
Mullen arrives at Boise State with stops at Temple, UCLA, Ohio and Kentucky. He most recently served as the Associate Athletic Director of Development at Temple since April 2023.
"Thank you to Jeramiah Dickey, Argia Beristain, Bryan Beals, and Cody Gougler for affording me the opportunity to join a great team," said Mullen. "I am excited to serve Boise State Athletics and the Boise State Foundation at a pivotal moment in the athletics What's Next 2.0 strategic plan and the Unbridled Campaign."
In his four years at Temple, Mullen played a major role in securing some of the largest gifts in the athletics department history as he rose from Assistant AD of Development to Associate AD. He led Temple Athletics' principal and major gift operations to record highs in 2024, including closing the largest gift in Temple Athletics history to endow the Lefkowitz Director of Athletics position and a high six-figure gift to bolster student-athlete support services. Mullen was instrumental in launching and overseeing "The 1894 Society," Temple's philanthropic giving society for athletics.
Prior to Temple, Mullen was the Assistant Director of Development at UCLA for two years. He worked with a donor portfolio of nearly 200 prospects and solicited gifts including a $2 million planned gift to establish an endowment to support the women's and men's golf programs. He also served on the athletics development team that raised $326.2 million during the Centennial Campaign for UCLA.
Mullen started his athletic fundraising career as a graduate assistant for development at Ohio University. As an undergraduate student at the University of Kentucky, Mullen served as an intern in the Kentucky Athletics Department, Student Body President, and a Member on the UK Board of Trustees.
In addition to his practical experience, Mullen is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD). He has been a participant at the Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium (CALS), NAADD Bobby Purcell Mentor Program, and NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar and served on the Kentucky Children's Hospital Development Council and Golden Matrix Fund Advisory Council.
Mullen has a doctorate in higher education from Temple University as well as two master's degrees from Ohio University (Master of Sport Administration and Master of Business Administration), seeking a master's degree in public administration from the University of Kentucky with an anticipated completion date of May 2026, and a bachelor's in business administration from Kentucky.
