
Broncos Garner Three Mountain West Weekly Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Emily Lopez and Kristina Shchennikova each earned Mountain West weekly honors following their performances against Air Force and Greenville on Feb. 9.

Lopez garnered Co-Vault Specialist of the Week while Shchennikova received Co-Beam Specialist of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

The specialist of the week honor is awarded to the highest-scoring athlete in each event weekly, while freshman of the week is given to the freshman with the highest score among all events.

Lopez scored a 9.800 on vault to secure the event title at the meet against Air Force and Greenville. The fifth year picked up her first vault championship of the season, ninth of her career, to earn her third weekly honor of the season. This also marks Lopez's 12th-career MW specialist of the week accolade and second on vault.

Shchennikova made her collegiate debut on beam at the meet against Air Force and Greenville, scoring a 9.900. This performance marked the highest beam score in a freshman debut since at least 1987 and earned her the event title. Shchennikova collected her second and third MW weekly honors.
