PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Boise State women's golf team opened the spring campaign with a championship, winning the title at Mountain Classic Match Play. The Broncos defeated Portland State in the first round and Seattle in the semifinal before topping Northern Arizona in the final. Teal Matsueda and Brooke Patterson led the Blue and Orange, both finishing the week 3-0-0. Jillian Hui and Hannah Lim added two wins apiece while Annie Buffolino tallied one. In the individual bracket, Emily Cadwell, Macee Greenwood and Zoe Parker each notched one victory.

First Round vs. Portland State (Boise State, 5-0-0)
The Broncos were dominant in the first round, winning all five matches against Portland State. Patterson, Hui and Buffolino each secured a 5&4 victory, with Matsueda and Lim adding 4&3 wins. On the individual side, Parker earned a 9&7 win in her collegiate debut while Cadwell captured a 5&4 triumph.

Semifinal vs. Seattle (Boise State, 3-0-2)
All five Broncos trailed at least once, but Boise State rallied for a semifinal victory. Matsueda overcame an early deficit to secure a 3&1 win. Patterson added a 2&1 triumph, then Lim notched wins on three of the final five holes to earn a 3&2 victory.

Final vs. Northern Arizona (Boise State, 3-0-2)
Boise State edged the Lumberjacks, winning three close matches. Patterson took three of the final four holes to secure a 3&2 win. Matsueda won the first three holes on the back nine to build a lead that eventually gave her a 2&1 victory. Hui clinched the title with a 2&1 triumph, taking a lead after a birdie on the fourth hole and maintaining it throughout the day. Individually, Greenwood earned a 2&1 victory.

"Match play is a much different mindset and I am proud of how everyone battled, both weather and within their matches, to come out victorious!"

Notables

This is the third-straight season the Broncos have won a tournament. Boise State captured the Hobble Creek Fall Classic title during the 2022-23 campaign and won the Pizza Hut-Lady Thunderbird Invitational last season.
This marks Boise State's second championship at Mountain Classic Match Play. The Broncos also won in 2021.

What's Next
The Broncos will remain in Palm Desert, competing in the Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic from Feb. 15-17. Boise State will play at Monterey Classic Club, with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. MT each day.
