Boise State Snaps Five-Game Losing Streak

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's basketball utilized a commanding fourth-quarter effort to take down Wyoming, 78-73, and snap a five-game losing streak, Tuesday night in ExtraMile Arena.

Trailing 69-68 with 1:31 remaining, Natalie Pasco and Dani Bayes buried back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Broncos (16-12, 6-9 Mountain West) a three-point lead. After the Cowgirls (16-10, 10-4 MW) answered with a pair of free throws, Tatum Thompson converted all four free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.

The Blue and Orange outscored Wyoming 20-6 in the fourth quarter, and held Wyoming to 1-of-11 shooting and forced 10 turnovers in the final frame.

Thompson matched her career-high with 25 points in the victory, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor and making seven of her nine free throw attempts. The junior added nine rebounds and matched her career-high with three blocks. Bayes added 21 points in the win and matched her season-high with three steals defensively. Pasco drained both of her 3-point attempts and finished with 14 points.

Bayes scored six of the Broncos' first 10 points, but the Cowgirls used a 10-0 run to race out to an early 21-10 lead. Christensen and Thompson answered with back-to-back layups, but Wyoming held a 23-16 lead after the first frame.

Boise State cut the lead to five three minutes into the second period, but the Cowgirls responded with a 3-pointer from the wing. Bayes scored seven-straight points to cut the lead to four with under three minutes remaining, and Thompson doubled down with back-to-back layups to knot the game at 40 with 1:06 left in the half. Wyoming hit a stepback jumper at the buzzer to take a 42-40 into the halftime break.

Thompson opened the half with a layup and Boise State took the lead following a pair of Pasco free throws. The two teams changed leads eight times over the next four minutes, but Wyoming used a 10-0 run to take a 59-50 lead midway through the period. The Broncos cut the game to one possession off an old-fashioned 3-point play from Bayes, but the Cowgirls ended the period with six consecutive points to take a 67-58 advantage to the final frame.

Boise State held Wyoming scoreless for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, allowing Boise State to cut the lead to 67-64 with five minutes remaining on the clock.  After a pair of free throws from Thompson, the Broncos gained the advantage off a Pasco floater with 2:43 remaining. The Cowgirls retook the lead for the final time in the contest with a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession.
