BOISE, Idaho — Led by Tyson Degenhart and Pearson Carmichael who scored a combined 53 points, Boise State defeated New Mexico, 86-78, on Wednesday night at ExtraMile Arena.

New Mexico began Wednesday's game by scoring the first five points and nine of the opening 12. Aided by a couple early Boise State turnovers, the Lobos led by four at the 15:49 mark.

Out of the under-16 media timeout, the Broncos tallied the next four points and evened the score at nine. Boise State grabbed its first lead of the evening at the 5:02 mark when Carmichael buried a three which was his only basket of the half.

The Broncos collected its largest lead of the frame and opened a five-point advantage on a driving layup in transition by Degenhart. It was his 13th and 14th points of the period which tied Junior Joseph for the most by a player.

In a tightly contested half where neither team led by more than six, both clubs combined to shoot a tick over 50 percent. Boise State knocked down six threes and made 10 of its 11 free throws and led, 42-39, at the intermission.

The Broncos started the second half with a 7-2 run and forced a prompt timeout by New Mexico. Boise State upped its lead to double-digits six minutes into the final period on a four-point play by Carmichael.

Leading the way for the entire second half, the Broncos' largest lead was 19. The team scored 40 or more points in each half, noting the fourth time this season that's happened.
